After spending 216 hours watching BB Naija, here’s my take!
As the award winning reality show, Big Brother Naija comes to a wrap; it is pertinent that we scrutinize some relevant characteristics of the housemates and it's similitude to our daily living.
The happenings in the Big brother house, requires much ponderosity; ranging from certain arguable questions which includes:
* should we continue to do good (just like the case of Sir Dee, who gave Tacha more coin than Diane; who saved his ass from eviction)?
* does Tacha really lack home training, or is it just a tactics?
* should indecent dressing disqualify Mercy from winning?
BBN is not just a reality show, it is a dais where life lessons are thought. It is a game where someone could be laughing with you and still lobby behind to kick you out (as in the case of Ike nominating Diane).
It is a contest that expounds that noble name can only give one a platform, but not a guarantee of winning; because it takes more than a name to win in life. Just like the case of Seyi Awolowo, who needed not just money but people's support to win.
Also it teaches about the intentionality of life, where one is supposed to take life serious and hustle when others are hustling. To avoid ending up like Isilomo and Avala, who refused to join others to pick up coins.
Background also, does not really determine who will succeed or fail in life. It all depends on how passionate and curious, one can be. Mercy tried four (4) times, before she entered the Big brother house.
How about the case of Omashola? Over confidence ruined Omashola. Because Efe the winner of 2017 BBN won with Warri swag based on logistics, didn't translate to automatic endorsement of the WARRI matrix. Shouting 'Warriiii' was boring, over used and irritating. He ran out of ideas and actually thought he had manipulated his fellow housemates to endorse his brand whenever they chorused 'Street'. Alas, his disappointment tells a story.
The actions of Mike in the house, depicts that there's no reason for men to cheat on their wives. Mike is a true definition of responsible and faithful man. Also, learning to control our rages and anger, is the only antidote that heals the disease, known as 'failure'. Learn to control your fury, because the consequences might spill out of your hands. This is a case of Tacha, who had a heavy weight backup and die hard fans, but was disqualified due to her inability to control her resentment.
How about Uncle Uzor?
Mercy was proud to mention her uncle, because he has been an inspiration to her family. Despite the fact that he couldn't meet up to the requirements of communicating with the house mates (Ike in particular) fluently, Mercy was still proud of him because he was contributive to her family. Do we still have such uncles now? Or uncles that will return a flash with a flash or total silence.
Another intrinsic lesson to learn from Big Brother Naija, is that "you can never be richer than the boss himself". Mercy made 60 million, while Big Brother made over 5 billion naira on votes alone.
True friendship is still in existence, despite all odds. This is a case of Mercy and Diane, who maintained their friendship till the last day. How about gossiping? Yeah gossipers don't last long. No matter how popular you are, gossiping will definitely lead you to nowhere. This is the case of Venita, who couldn't mind her business, but kept gossiping till her eviction day. Remember the famous quote "where talent refuse to take you, humility will. When your haters hate you so much, that you have nothing to do; just show them love and be happy. This is a case of Frodd, who lasted in the house because he was at peace with everyone; even though they hated him.
Immorality lives right under our nose. Sometimes you know but don't have a proof, while other times you know but it's just not your business. I once heard about choir members sleeping with their colleagues, house mates sleeping with themselves. Sometimes you can't do anything about it because it's not your primary business. Most times they do it in toilets because they know you don't have sufficient rights to air your view. Big brother Naija is a game worth playing, because it teaches so many life lessons and shouldn't be treated with contempt or abject aversion.
